Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca, Mexico
Despite the heat in the afternoon, we decided to visit the farmers market in Tlacolula. Located 45 minutes outside of Oaxaca City. I’m so glad we made it to the market. The market is a meeting place for locals from the surrounding pueblos (towns) to sell their goods. There were hundreds of vendors so we walked around and saw tons of carts selling chiles, nuts, raisins, meats, spices and more. All the ingredients necessary to make a yummy mole sauce. One of the vendors, a small Oaxacan lady was preparing her fresh masa. She then began pinching the outer part of the tortilla, then added manteca, black beans, quesillo and salsa pasilla. It was delicious!
